In this work, Berlin photographer Mirko Zander focuses on cultural societies in Berlin-Wedding that are “for members only”, taking the semi-public aspect of these usually male-dominated micro-societies as the starting point of his photographic research. The result is a series of interior shots of mainly Turkish cultural societies. People, however, are rarely present in these photographs. Perhaps photography allows an indirect approach to the “members’” experiences, their yearnings, and their never-ending longing for a place to call home.
